He asks if she’s happy, drinking in every detail of her face, committing every wrinkle and freckle to memory before another ten years pass.
“I am.”
Her hair looks expensive, as do her clothes and wedding ring. Sunlight plays off the center diamond, taunting him. She shifts in her modest heels, and he remembers massaging her feet before lightly sliding his tongue up the inside of her calf.
Her cheeks flush and she looks away, over his shoulder.
His latest girlfriend wraps an arm around his waist. “Who is this?”
The love of my life. “An old friend,” he says.
